Designing a less frustrating kitchen timer

I wanted to design a kitchen timer which works with my kitchen workflow. It needs to alert you that the time is complete without being annoying. A common problem for me is an alarm going off while I'm doing something, and I can't immediately drop everything and reset it. If you're anything like me, in this situation you frequently find yourself telling the timer to shut up. Instead of constantly beeping, wouldn't it be nice if the timer beeped a few times and then stopped, with occasional reminder beeps?

And of course, while I'm at it I might as well see what else I'd like to redesign about the humble kitchen timer...
